Travel plans were put on hold as flights were cancelled or suspended and the hotel industry was forced to downsize their operations. As a result, the market size of the tourism sector in the United States fell to 609.48 billion U.S. dollars in 2020 compared to the previous year's total of nearly 1.2 trillion U.S. dollars. The sector was forecast to reach 957.42 billion in 2022.
