In 2016, the city of Beni Mellal in Morocco generated around 530,000 metric tons of municipal solid waste (MSW), which is higher compared to Rabat and Tangier, generating approximately 237,000 and 350,000 metric tons, respectively.
Managing solid waste is one of the main environment-related threats in Morocco. Overall, reasons such as inadequate infrastructure and insufficient funding for solid waste management may account for the improper disposal of solid waste in the country.
