In 2018, biomass was the most cost-competitive source of renewable energy in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) of 0.05 U.S. dollars per kilowatt hour. In the other side of the spectrum, solar photovoltaic power generation had the highest cost in the region, with an LCOE of 0.11 dollars per kilowatt hour.
