When asked about their shopping plans during Amazon's Prime Day in the summer of 2021, about half of online shoppers in the United States agreed that unplanned, spontaneous purchases are a possibility and thus might occur. Only about a fifth of U.S. consumers believed or were sure they would only buy the items they had intended to buy.
