The Agency for Cultural Affairs in Japan planned to contribute around 56 billion Japanese yen as an emergency comprehensive aid package for art and cultural activities in the country in fiscal year 2020. Close to 51 billion yen were designated to support cultural and sports groups to proceed with the activities after the period of suspension due to the impact of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak.
The emergency package includes support funds for individual self-employed artists and for small to large-sized cultural groups. A self-employed artist can receive up to 200 thousand Japanese yen with a simple registration and verification.
