In 2021, the utilities sector's gross domestic product (GDP) in Mexico amounted to nearly 267.2 billion Mexican pesos in the last quarter of the year. In comparison to the same period of the previous year, this represented a decline of roughly one percent. In contrast, in the second quarter of 2020 - as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic and its lockdown measures - the Mexican utilities' sector GDP dropped to 256 billion pesos, the lowest figure reported since 2017.
