Monthly average prices for lemon in Egypt 2019-2023

In May 2023, the monthly average price for lemons in Egypt was measured at 23.38 Egyptian pounds (0.76 U.S. dollars) per kilogram, illustrating a increase of roughly 18.14 percent from the preceding month. In the period under review, the price fluctuated severely, ranging from 8.74 Egyptian pounds (0.28 U.S. dollars) per kilogram in November 2020 and 65 Egyptian pounds (2.1 U.S. dollars) per kilogram in June 2019. However, between September 2019 and May 2020, the prices were relatively more stable, ranging between 15.55 Egyptian pounds (0.5 U.S. dollars) per kilogram and 13.16 Egyptian pounds (0.43 U.S. dollars) per kilogram, respectively. The reasons for the drastic peaks could be linked to climate change, high purchase turnout in Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr, and uncontrolled rate of lemon exports along with decreased production due to seasonality of the crop.
