Monthly average prices for eggplants in Egypt 2019-2023

As of May 2023, the monthly average price of eggplants in Egypt was 9.1 Egyptian pounds (0.29 U.S. dollars) per kilogram, a decline of approximately 15.03 percent from the preceding month. Throughout the period under review, the mean price fluctuated between five Egyptian pounds (0.16 U.S. dollars) per kilogram as the trough, between August 2019 and December 2019, and 11.72 Egyptian pounds (0.38 U.S. dollars) per kilogram as the peak in April 2019. As eggplants are a summer crop, which needs warm weather, the average price was relatively stable from August to December in each year, when the supply is relatively higher. Moreover, fluctuations in the mean price of eggplants between January 2020 and July 2020 were relatively lower than in the same period a year before, which showed more severe fluctuations.
