Robo-advisors: ROI of SRI vs non-SRI in North America Q1 2020

In the first quarter of 2020, the return on investment of New York-based Betterment's SRI-themed portfolio equaled to 14.9 percent, whereas the returns from their non-SRI portfolio amounted to 16.8 percent. As for Toronto-based Wealthsimple, the return on investment of their SRI portfolio was 11.3 percent, while their non-SRI portfolio slightly underperformed and reached 9.2 percent. Socially responsible investing (SRI) and environmental, social and governance (ESG) investing are both types of sustainable investing. Sustainable investing has seen a huge surge in popularity since 2012 and the volume of sustainable investments in the U.S. had more than tripled by 2018.
