Monthly average prices for lentils in Egypt 2019-2023

In May 2023, the monthly average price for lentils in Egypt was at 44.5 Egyptian pounds (1.44 U.S. dollars) per kilogram. Crushed lentils cost 45.26 Egyptian pounds (1.47 U.S. dollars) per kilogram. For lentils, that was a slight increase of 2.63 percent from the preceding month, while for crushed lentils, there was a slim increase of 0.49 percent in the mean price from the preceding month.

Throughout the period under review, the average prices for lentils followed an overall increasing trend, with the lowest price at 20.04 Egyptian pounds per kilogram in September 2021 and 44.5 Egyptian pounds per kilogram in May 2023. While for crushed lentils the lowest price was at 18.28 Egyptian pounds per kilogram in July 2021 and the peak was at 45.26 Egyptian pounds per kilogram in May 2023. Lentils are widely used by the Egyptian populations as a grain in major oriental dishes.
