The world's total reserves of graphite amounted to 290 million metric tons in 2024. This represented an increase of about 10 million tons from the previous year. China had the largest reserves of natural graphite worldwide in 2024, at approximately 81 million metric tons. Graphite is a native element mineral and a semimetal, comprised of a crystalline allotrope of carbon. One of its well-known uses is as the lead in pencils.
