In fiscal year 2018, the export volume of beer-like beverages produced by microbreweries in Japan amounted to 2,508 kiloliters. This is a slight decrease of about 53 kiloliters compared to the previous year. Due to the high costs incurred through liquor exports, microbreweries distribute their products predominantly in the domestic market.

*Beer and low-malt beer (happoshu) produced and distributed by microbreweries. Microbreweries in this case indicate small-scale manufacturers of beer-like beverages. Including corporations with a capital of less than 300 million Japanese yen as well as corporations and individuals with less than 300 employees.
Excluding the five major breweries Asahi Breweries, Suntory Beer, Sapporo Breweries, Kirin Brewery, and Orion Breweries.
