Approximately one-third (31 percent) of adults in Africa had an increased risk of having an infection, such as the one caused by coronavirus (COVID-19). Taking into account poor living conditions, as well as age and lack of enough food, clean water or medical care, six out of ten people in Guinea (64 percent) and Niger (62 percent) are more vulnerable to being infected and to developing a disease. In contrast, the susceptibility to illness were at seven percent in Tunisia and two percent in Mauritius.

According to the source, the index was based on "who run an increased risk of exposure to infection and who also were either 60 years of age or older or told fieldworkers that they had gone without sufficient food, sufficient clean water, or necessary medical care on a frequent basis in the previous 12 months".
