The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic may have caused disruptions to the access to markets and grocery stores in Kenya, as 22.4 percent of households reported having difficulties purchasing food items in the period between May and June 2020. The main reason for not accessing grocery stores was the closure of markets (44.1 percent), followed by movement restrictions (30.9 percent), such as curfew.

The respondents were asked for the reasons why their households were unable to access the market/grocery stores to purchase food items in the past 7 days preceding the survey.
The distribution of the respondents was 51.3 percent female and 48.7 percent male. The majority of respondents (63 percent) were aged between 18 and 39 years, and about 35.5 percent reported having attained at least secondary level of education.
