The highest voting attendance for the local elections in Bucharest was registered in 1996 and in 2012, when Victor Ciorbea and Sorin Oprescu were chosen mayors of the city of Bucharest. The turnout for the local elections in 2020 increased to nearly 37 percent, and saw again an increase of over 4.3 percent for the elections in June 2024.
