As of 2019, the travel and tourism sector contributed with over nine million jobs to the employment in Africa. In Egypt, around 1.7 million people were employed in the industry. Nigeria and South Africa followed, with roughly 929 thousand and 760 thousand jobs in the tourism sector, respectively.
