Impact of COVID-19 on projected budget balance in Tunisia 2020-2021
As of June 2020, the budget balance of Tunisia in 2020 was revised down to a deficit of six percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The projection assumed a worst-case scenario, where the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic continues through December 2020. Before the outbreak, the deficit was projected at 3.7 percent of the GDP. Moreover, the budget balance was reviewed to 4.5 percent of the GDP in 2021. Previously, the forecast indicated a deficit of 3.5 percent for the same year.
