The Indian Premier League had over 130 million viewers on Hotstar in 2017. A significant increase in the television reach was seen over the years from 2014. About 80 percent of IPL viewers on Hotstar were less than 35 years of age in 2017. The Star India-owned streaming platform had exclusive broadcast rights to the cricket league in recent years, giving its revenues a huge boost.
