The Indian Premier League had over 439 million viewers as of the domestic season in 2017. This was a significant increase since its first season. Cricket being the most popular sport in India, almost one third of the total population of the country watched the league matches on television that year. Furthermore, the IPL brand was worth over three billion Indian rupees in that year.
