The UK government has invested in the HS2 high-speed rail project since 2011. The project consists of a railroad line that will connect London with cities such as Manchester and Birmingham. Government funding has consistently and substantially grown from 62 million British pounds in financial year 2011/2012 to over 3.3 billion in financial year 2020/2021 – the highest investment sum yet.
