Breakdown of pipeline liquid release incidents in Alberta, Canada 2018, by cause

The most common cause of pipeline incidents in Alberta, Canada is internal corrosion. Some 38 percent of all incidents were due to corrosion of the (mostly) steel pipes from within. External corrosion and construction deficiency were the two other main incident causes.

Pipelines overseen by the Alberta Energy Regulator had released more then 250 cubic meters of liquid on three separate occasions in 2018.
