The rice production in Tanzania amounted to approximately 3.2 million metric tons in the season 2018/2019. Compared to the previous season, the output declined from 3.4 million metric tons. Rice is a major food crop and the second largest cereal crop in the country. The grain is used mostly for human consumption and accounts for around eight percent of the nation’s calorie intake.
