The COVID-19 pandemic has led to an increase in healthcare waste all around the world. In Bangkok, it is estimated that healthcare waste generation increased to 160 metric tons per day during the crisis, compared to 26 metric tons before. This was a daily increase of almost 500 percent. One of the reasons for the dramatic rise in waste is the increased use of disposable personal protective equipment (PPE), such as masks.
