According to a 2022 survey, 83.5 percent of respondents in the Philippines stated that the ASEAN should align itself with the United States as a strategic partner in the case it would be forced to be aligned with either world power rivals. In contrast, about 16.5 percent stated that the ASEAN should select China.

1, 677 respondents from all ten ASEAN member states participated in the 2022 survey, of which 23.9 percent of respondents were from the Philippines. The survey was conducted both online and offline.
