The private sector in Denmark employs the highest number of people. As of the second quarter of 2024, nearly two million people were employed in private corporations in Denmark, which was more than the same quarter in 2023. The municipal government sector employed the second highest number of people with more than 510,000 employees. Across most sectors, there were more registered employees in 2024 than in 2023.

The source adds the following information: 'From September 2020, new Danish holiday regulations mean that newly hired salaried employees are entitled to paid holiday already from the beginning of their employment. From 4th Quarter 2020 onwards this has an impact on the calculation of full-time equivalents (full-time employees) due to more paid working hours during holidays than before.'
