As of June 2020, some 1,266 bulk carriers and 583 container ships were equipped with scrubbing systems worldwide. Vessel scrubbers are employed to remove nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur oxides (SOx), and other air pollutants from exhaust gases generated by engines.
