The multinational food and beverage company Nestlé generates almost two million metric tons of plastic packaging waste per year. Whilst this is a considerable amount of plastic waste, it is far below what is generated annually by Coca-Cola.
Coca-Cola is one of the most popular drinks brands in the world, with million of people around the world consuming their products daily. It is especially popular in Mexico, where an estimated 75 thousand metric tons of mismanaged plastic waste is created by Coca-Cola every year. Mismanaged waste includes that which is burnt or dumped.
