In 2019, intermodal freight contributed the most to overall revenue generated on U.S. Class I railroads, bringing in a total of just under 13 billion U.S. dollars - or about 18 percent - for the year. Chemicals and coal also generated a substantial proportion of between 13 and 15 percent of overall freight revenue on Class I rail corridors.
