A study from June 2020 found that 39 percent of Democrat-identifying adults in the United States strongly approved of social media companies labeling posts on their platform from ordinary users as inaccurate or misleading. In contrast, only ten percent of survey respondents who identified as Republican reported the same thing. The results are almost the same when asking about social media platforms flagging inaccurate information on their platform which was posted by elected officials.

Respondents were randomly assigned questions about whether social companies should label posts from elected officials or ordinary users. Those who did not give an answer are not shown.
