Sales volume of guavas on markets in South Africa 2000-2018

As at the beginning of the 21st century and until 2018, a negative trend can be observed in the sales volume of guavas on local markets in South Africa with an overall decline of 47.7 percent during that period. In the period under review, sales volume was at its highest at close to 3.1 thousand metric tons in 2001/2002, and was at its lowest at 1.5 thousand metric tons in 2016/2017. The reason for the huge discrepancy between the sales and production volumes of guavas can be linked to the fact that most guavas produced are processed. As of 2017/2018, the preliminary sales volume of guavas on the local market was around 1.5 thousand metric tons, which constituted a slight increase of 0.59 percent from the previous year.
