Gross value of bananas in South Africa 2000-2018

The preliminary gross value of produced bananas in South Africa stood at close to 2.2 billion South African rands (corresponding to approximately 127.7 million U.S. dollars) in 2017/2018. This presented a growth of roughly 18 percent with respect to the former year. At the beginning of the 21st century and until 2018, a positive trend can be observed, despite that, 2016/2017 was the only year facing a minor decline in the gross value of about 2.5 percent in the period under review. During the time span under review, the comprehensive growth was 331.1 percent. The drop in 2016/2017 is linked to a severe drop in production volume of 40 percent compared to the preceding year.
