In South America, the city with the highest domestic purchasing power for 2023 was Montevideo, scoring 43.9 index points.

Using New York City as the base for the calculation, with a maximum score of 100 in the ranking, the source explains that "if the domestic purchasing power is 40, this means that the inhabitants of that city with an average salary can afford to buy on an average 60 percent less goods and services than New York City residents with an average salary."
