The forecasts presented by the government of Spain in May 2020 on the impact of the coronavirus on national employment rate show a significant increase in unemployment in 2020 compared to 2019, with the percentage of the unemployed population standing at around 19 percent. 2021 revealed more optimistic estimations at a rate of 17.2 percent unemployment rate.
