In 2020, around 31.1 percent of male underage youth in South Korea had consumed alcohol at least once. Experience of alcohol consumption had steadily decreased since 2008, although male youth consistently recorded a higher share than their female counterparts since 2009.

South Korean citizens are able to purchase alcohol from January 1st of the year that they would turn 19 years of age. While there is no law that forbids underage alcohol consumption, it is illegal for others to provide any means through which underage youth can consume alcohol
