In December 2020, the South Eastern zone of Tanzania had the highest Consumer Price Index for food and non-alcoholic beverages in the country, at 143.5 points. The Central zone registered the lowest level (110.3 points). The average CPI for food in the country was measured at 125.54 points in the same period.

The Bank of Tanzania monitors economic developments at micro-level basing on six zones: Central (Dodoma, Morogoro, Singida, and Tabora regions), Dar es Salaam, South Eastern (Ruvuma, Coast, Lindi, and Mtwara regions), Lake (Geita, Kagera, Kigoma, Mara, Mwanza, Shinyanga, and Simiyu), Northern (Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Manyara, and Tanga), and Southern Highlands (Iringa, Katavi, Mbeya, Njombe, Rukwa, and Songwe).
