In the first quarter of 2021, the inflation rate varied across Tanzania's geographical zones. The prices level declined in Dar es Salaam, and South Eastern, in comparison to the first quarter of 2020. On the other hand, Southern Highlands, Lake, Northern and Central zones recorded an increase in the inflation rate. The indicator was at its highest in Southern Highlands, at 7.4 percent.

The Bank of Tanzania monitors economic developments at micro-level basing on six zones: Central (Dodoma, Morogoro, Singida, and Tabora regions), Dar es Salaam, South Eastern (Ruvuma, Coast, Lindi, and Mtwara regions), Lake (Geita, Kagera, Kigoma, Mara, Mwanza, Shinyanga, and Simiyu), Northern (Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Manyara, and Tanga), and Southern Highlands (Iringa, Katavi, Mbeya, Njombe, Rukwa, and Songwe).
