Number of domestic one-day trips in Japan 2023, by purpose
Sightseeing and recreational activities were the purposes of the majority of same-day trips undertaken by domestic travelers in Japan in 2023, with about 159 million leisure travelers recorded throughout the year. That year, the number of day trip travelers in Japan amounted to around 216.32 million, a significant recovery from the previous three years that were heavily impacted by the restrictions from the COVID-19 pandemic.
