Number of Japanese overseas cruise ship travelers 2010-2020
In 2020, the number of Japanese people traveling on outbound cruise ship lines of domestic operators amounted to around 1.3 thousand, a decrease from around 8.2 thousand in 2019. While the number of Japanese passengers on domestically operated cruise ship lines heading towards overseas destinations declined in recent years, the total number of cruise ship travelers increased steadily, boosted by the growing number of passengers on trips provided by foreign cruise companies. Cruise ship travels almost disappeared after the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic.
