According to a survey conducted by GEM Partners in December 2020, close to one third of the respondents in Japan would visit theaters that offered a special discount on the ticket price. A nationwide state of emergency that included the closure of theaters was declared on April 16 due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The nationwide state of emergency was completely lifted on May 25.
