According to a survey conducted by GEM Partners in Japan in December 2020, around 33 percent of respondents were of the opinion that people must refrain a little from going on domestic travel with overnight stays amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Only five percent did not see any necessity to practice self-restraint regarding overnight trips. Following the global outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020, the Japanese government declared a state of emergency in April. While it was lifted again in May, citizens were advised to remain at home and refrain from going outside.
