According to a survey conducted by GEM Partners in Japan in July 2020, around 35 percent of respondents did not perceive a change in time spent in night clubs amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Almost one third felt that their time use on night club visits decreased a lot. Following the global outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020, the Japanese government declared a state of emergency from April until the end of May. Citizens were advised to remain at home and refrain from going outside unnecessarily.
