Among the 47 prefectures in Japan, Tokyo Prefecture recorded the highest number of domestic leisure tourists, with around 28.9 million travelers visiting the capital for tourism and recreational purposes in 2023. Tokushima Prefecture had the lowest number of tourists for recreational purposes, amounting to 1.41 million.
