Most used food delivery app orders South Korea 2023

According to a 2023 survey conducted by Rakuten Insight in South Korea, around 80.3 percent of respondents stated that their most used food delivery app was the app Baedal Minjok, also known as Baemin. The app Yogiyo was also popular, with approximately 42.1 percent choosing it as their most used food delivery service.

Food delivery app usage in South Korea

According to a survey conducted in 2021, over 37 percent of people ordered food delivery via mobile apps. Meanwhile, a 2023 survey found that around one in four placed an order once or twice a week, while a further one in four did so several times a month. The main reason for using food delivery apps, according to a 2022 survey, was the simple convenience of being able to browse menus, order food, and pay all in the same place.

Baemin vs Yogiyo

Baemin and Yogiyo are the leading food delivery apps in terms of users in South Korea, with around 20.7 million and 9.1 million customers respectively. Baemin was originally founded in 2010 by the Woowa Brothers Corp., while Yogiyo was started in 2012 by German multinational online food delivery service Delivery Hero as their South Korean branch. In March of 2021, Woowa Brothers along with Baemin were acquired by Delivery Hero, meaning the top two competitors in the domestic food delivery sector are currently owned by the same company. However, the acquisition of Baemin was only approved by the Korea Fair Trade Commission on the condition that Yogiyo be sold off due to anti-trust concerns.
