In December 2023, the number of inbound travelers to Japan increased by 8.2 percent, compared to figures from the same period in 2019. Following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, entry restrictions and travel bans resulted in a sharp decline in tourism. Inbound tourism fully recovered by the end of 2023.
