In 2023, women aged between 18 and 24 years represented the largest demographic on social video app TikTok, with 28 percent of the platform's user base being women in this age group. Men in the same age group accounted for almost 11.2 percent of the platform's audience in France.
TikTok influencers
TikTok is a great platform for influencer visibility. While higher posting frequency leads to a higher exposure on the platform, user engagement appeared to be more prominent among nano influencers that had between 1,000 and 10,000 followers. Nano influencers reported having engagement rates of approximately 12 percent, while both macro and mega influencers (with audiences of between 500 thousand followers and one million followers) reported engagement rates of less than 10 percent.
TikTok's audience in France
Thanks to users' preference for short and social video, TikTok has gained terrain over more mainstream social networks, such as text or photo-based X (previously Twitter) and Pinterest. In 2023, while Facebook and WhatsApp were still the preferred social media and communication platforms for French users, TikTok's reported an audience reach of almost 40 percent. Overall, TikTok users in France spent over 38 hours per month engaging with the popular social video platform.
