Average outbound travel days in South Korea 2019, by age group
According to a survey conducted in South Korea in 2019 among South Koreans who had traveled abroad, teenagers spent the most time on travels abroad in South Korea in 2019, followed by people in their 60s. The total average number of days spent travelling abroad was 4.79 days.
Group travel
The majority of South Korean tourists travel with one to two companions. The average group size increased with age, as group travel is especially popular among elderly people. This is indicated by the share of respondents who have bought travel packages for their outbound travels in 2019. According to the survey, around 88.3 percent of outbound travelers aged 70 and above bought travel packages.

In 2019, a record number of around 28.71 million outbound trips were made by South Koreans. Due to the country’s geographical location, outbound trips are mostly made via planes, with most travelers departing from Incheon Airport near Seoul. In 2019, the total expenditure of tourists from South Korea amounted to around 28.9 billion U.S. dollars.
