Dutch large banks saw their number of customers with a loan for their SME decline by nearly 400,000 in around eight years. This figure was based on voluntary reporting, where SMEs owners were asked about their finances. Other research indicates that bank loans are not considered relevant for most small-to-medium enterprises in the Netherlands.
