Venture capital market size in the Netherlands 2007-2019
Venture capital investments in the Netherlands grew by nearly 25 percent in 2019, whereas disinvestments decreased by nearly half. Venture capital mostly refers to money invested into young companies that are not listed on the stock exchange. Start-up investments are the most known part of this, but this can also include (angel) seed investments or early stage ventures. Typically, Amsterdam is considered to have a smaller start-up scene than other European capital cities. An example of a Dutch start-up company that received a large investment (100 million euros) in 2017 was online supermarket Picnic.
