A survey conducted in China in April 2020 about plant-based meat products revealed that around 32 percent of respondents from first-tier cities had bought and eaten plant-based meat, whereas only 19 percent of respondents from third and lower tier cities could say the same. Almost a third of respondents from smaller than second-tier cities had never heard about plant-based meat at all.

Among 3,770 survey participants, 25 percent were from tier-1 cities, 22 percent from new tier-1, 17 percent from tier-2, 15 percent from tier-3, and 21 percent from tier-4 or lower tier cities.
