At just under two-thirds, high-speed rail (HSR) was the most in-demand mode of transportation along various high-speed rail routes in France and Japan in 2018. However, while air travel was the second-most-preferred mode of travel along the routes in Japan, car travel proved the second-most-popular transport mode along the French routes. The graph indicates a strong preference for car travel on both U.S. East Coast routes, with less than ten percent of people traveling by HSR on these journeys.
